Anime Spring Line-up 2013 – My View, What’s yours?
Anime Spring Line-up 2013 – My Opinions, What’s yours?
(Feel free to Comment)
There is (so far that I’m aware of) 40 anime series starting towards the end of March/start of April.
I’ve already categorised these int0 using my personal opinions, What I want to watch, maybe’s, probably not and defently can’t find time for lists:
8 – I want to try and watch (Yes list)
5 – Maybe watch (not sure, Maybe Yes)
6 – Not sure, (Maybe No)
21 – That don’t appeal to me/dont have time for (No list)
18 – Updated 17/03/13 (More series that were announced after the initial post was published)
In this post I’m going to list all of 40(Correction 58) with any links I’ve found to Previews or more information about the anime and my reasons for wanting to watch or not watch them which depending on what style of anime’s you enjoy your opinions may differ from my own so take a look through and pick out the ones you want to watch this Spring
I’ve attempted to find as many of the MAL (My Anime List) pages as I can so if you use MAL to keep track of your anime’s then it will make life easier for adding them to your lists i.e. Plan to watch.
So to start:
YES – These are the ones I want to try and watch (time being on my side hopefully!)
1) Girls und Panzer
Slight cheat, this is going to start at Episode 11 the previous episodes airing late last year.
Its been a long wait but I’m looking forward to the conclusion of the series.
I personally don’t think this show needs much of an introduction but if you want further information check out:
2) Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S (A Certain Scientific Railgun S)
This is the second season of Railgun and will be focusing on the Sister Arc of the story.
I’ve not had time to read the novel’s yet but the Sisters Arc is a big part in the Manga series and I think it is also touched on in the A Certain Magical Index story as well.
This is the main anime this season for myself and I am very much looking forward to watching it.
Link to the MAL page. (If you haven’t seen the first series please go watch it )
3) Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199
This series is a remake of an old series (Star Blazers) made back in 1974 and kind of gives me the impression its going to besimilar to Ozma.
“ The series is being screened back-to-back in theaters across Japan, a few episodes at a time before being released in home video and is confirmed to start airing on TV in April 2013.” According to the Wiki Article.
Brief Plot: “The year is 2199. The once blue and green planet Earth has been reduced to a radioactive desert wasteland by constant attacks from a hostile aliens from the planet Gamilus which force the remaining population underground. However, a friendly alien race from the planet Iscandar contacts the humans and gives them the blueprints to build a powerful space battleship capable of retrieving a device to clean the planet before humanity disappears.”
It looks like its going to be a 24 episode series from what I can see on MAL, if you enjoy Sci-fi / Space Battle style anime, this maybe for you
I’ve not managed to find time to watch the first season of this yet, and the series is Ecchi which is a negative (not keen on watching Ecchi on the bus with lovely any lovely old dears sat behind )… However I like watching things with Ninja/Samurai’s and this could be similar to Senran Kagura which I’ve enjoyed this season and the animation looks nice as well.
Genres: Action, Comedy, Ecchi, Romance, School ().
Plot: The series takes place in an alternate version of Japan called Great Japan, in an alternate timeline where the Tokugawa shogunate remained active and has remained isolated from the rest of the world.
The story takes place at Buou Academic School, an academy located at the base of Mount Fuji where children of military families train to become samurai warriors. The academy is in the middle of a power struggle between two factions and the powerful student council that rules the school, and the owner of the Yagyu Dojo, and the mysterious Jubei Yagyu are dragged in the middle of the conflict.
The series features famous historical figures from Japan’s Sengoku period and early Edo period yet still set in recent times.
Shingeki no Kyojin or Attack of the Titan.
The plot is pretty well described in the image above, based on a manga I haven’t had the time to start there isn’t much I can say about the series and the preview shows that these Human eating Titans manage to get inside the walls and show a kid/guy flying around using what looks like spider man style (shooting wires across the town and falling with style) movement and a sword.
Genres: Action, Drama, Fantasy,Super Power
Check out the Preview Video on You tube, it looks like it may a good action packed one to follow for the season
There seems to be very limited information about this series. This seems to be one of the unknown of the season, there is a wiki page for it but currently its just has some of the cast (voice actors) listed and nothing more (Wiki Page) and even the preview doesn’t show much, it shows some characters and a Mecha flying in space.
In my opinion like most Original series, its worth checking out and worse case scenario you drop it a few episodes in.
Not much on wiki, animation looks good on the preview but other than the boats on the sea there isn’t much given away. I like Sci-Fi anime anyway so its on my list, see how it goes
8) Kidou Senshi Gundam Seed Destiny HD Remaster
Mecha, do I need to say any more? Always liked Gundamn so since this is coming out it gives me an excuse to watch it some more
Looks like we maybe getting 50 episodes
9) Hataraku Maou-sama!
The story is about a demon king named Satan who is about to conquer his own world when he is suddenly transported to Tokyo of our world and ends up working part-time at a fast food restaurant.
Sounds intresting, could be funny depending on how they do it. Preview shows a little action (towards the end) but nothing special.
Genres: Comedy, Demons, Romance, Shounen
This looks good, Aliens form Juniper and genetically altered humans who use purpose built robots (Mecha) to fight/defend. The synopsis on MAL gives quite a good idea of what the anime is about:
“In the latter half of 21st century, humans leave the Earth and begin to live in space. In order to adapt to the environment in space and deal with the hostile aliens in Jupiter, genetically engineered children called “Princes” are artificially raised and trained to be pilots of armed robots “AHSMB (Advanced High Standard Multipurpose Battle Device). This is a story about one of the teenage “Princes”, Hitachi O Izuru, who studies in an academic city Grandzehle.”
Genres: Action, Mecha, School, Sci-Fi,Seinen
Personally being a fan of Scifi and Mecha based anime’s this ones one I want to give a shot and see how it pans out.
I also found some nice images and some previews at Culture Japan.
11) Date A Live
Strange concept… Date this girl or the end of humanity, talk about pressure.
I wasn’t too sure about this series then I watched the Preview (link below) and am now looking forward to this one.
The plot is explained better than in the image above on the Wiki Page:
“Thirty years ago a strange phenomena called a “spacequake” devastated the center of Eurasia, claiming the lives of at least 150 million people. Since then, smaller spacequakes plague the world on a irregular basis. Shidō Itsuka, a seemingly ordinary high schooler comes across a mysterious girl at the ground zero of a spacequake and learns from his sister Kotori she is one of the “Spirits” who are the real cause of the spacequakes that occur when they manifest themselves in the world. He also learns that Kotori is the captain of the airship Ratatoskr and recruits him to make use of his mysterious ability to seal the Spirits’ powers and stop them from being a threat to mankind. However, there is a catch: to seal a Spirit, he must make her fall in love with him.”
Genres: Mecha, Romance, School, Sci-Fi, Shounen (from the preview (girl jumps on guy showing panties) there is a possibly of some Ecchi).
12) Devil Survivor 2 The Animation
Based on a game there is limited information about this anime series, however that said the genres highlighted on MAL advise: Demons, Supernatural which peaked my interest and then I watched the preview below which looks quite interesting. I may have to try and get hold of the game in the mean time
13) Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san
Simply a Slice of Life comedy, I’ve not managed to find much information, not even a preview for this one but I’m hoping its something similar to Squid Girl which my Son enjoyed watching so I’m going to check it out.
Maybe No (could still be yes )
14) Yahari Ore no Seishun Love come wa Machigatteiru.
I’m still not 100% decided with this one.
The genres listed against this anime are Comedy, Romance, School. Normally that would have been enough for me to ignore it, but I happend to watch Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo last season which was under the same genres and it was actually quiet entertaining. I also watched Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru but wasn’t as impressed.
The animation in the preview looks quite strange but I’m not sure if the overall show is going to look like that? I get the impression it maybe a Short Anime though I can’t currently find the durtaion anywhere (this is just a guess).
So I figured it was worth giving a try even if its only for 1 or 2 episodes and I can always drop it if it doesn’t seem amusing.
This one looks ok, I’m not too keen on the animation style but the anime seems to be quite action packed if I get chance to watch the 1st season before April then this maybe one I’ll watch.
Mushibugyo is based on a manga yet when searching for a preview I kept finding a fighting game? Eventually I found a preivew that looks quite good, swords and action. May watch the first episode and keep depending on the story line.
The Preview didn’t look too bad, but with story/plot with bracelets and circus ID seems a bit on the odd side. I think this one will probably not be one I’ll watch this season but depending on other peoples reviews may pick it up to watch at a later date if its any good.
18) Arata Kangatari
This doesn’t look too bad, typical boy meets girl and gets dragged into a whole log of trouble. From the preview I get the impression it looks like there maybe quite a lot of sword action. Worth checking out if nothing else
19) Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W
Deity that can turn into a silver haired girl who is chased by aliens! OK then!
Preview looks interesting where is shows a demon (probably alien) gargoyle flying thing outside the school waiting to attack I guess. Worth checking out, not sure if I’ll end up dropping it or not at this point.
20) Danchi Tomoo
Not too keen on the animation of this one, reminds me of king of the kill or Bevies and but-head, from the style I get the impression its a Short (we had a few in the Winter Season) but I maybe wrong. Either way doesn’t look like my kinda thing.
Guy gets camera and starts taking pictures of school girls and this is based on a PSP game? Hermmm I’ll give that game and anime a miss thanks. Wasn’t able to find a preview all the videos I found were from the game.
22) Uta no Prince-sama – Maji Love 2000%
Song writers, Idols and again based on a game, not all anime’s based on games are bad but Idol anime’s are not for me.
Again unable to find a preview but there is lots of videos of the game.
Again looks very Idol style, based on a game, very little preview videos and music/rythem… Not my thing so I’ll give it a miss. But if its your kinda show then take a look.
Boy thinking about Carnal Desires, Cat statue that grants wishes and a girl. Based on a novel I’ve not read and the story line leaves a lot to be designed, Id expect the anime to be full of Ecchi but the genres listed for this anime on MAL are Comedy, Romance, School, Seinen (young man) that may not be the case.
The preview doesn’t give much away ending with the guy pinning the girl down in a classroom, ermmm yeah I’ll give this a miss.
25) RDG Red Data Girl
The preview seems quite boring, basically looks very much like a slice of life school/shrine anime and no hint at the incident shown in the description above. MAL has the genre down as Fantasy, this maybe one of the anime’s that doesn’t well to my surprise but with so many anime’s I like the look of this season and this preview looking so plane I’ll give it a miss.
There are only 2 volumes of a manga out do far and no preview, so little to no information to go on.
The description above doesn’t look great and its another school, slice of life etc… I’ll give this one a miss.
27) Aku no Hana
Again like so many others, unable to find a preview. This sounds very similar to a plot from one of last seasons anime’s (Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru) which was entertaining to a degree but I probably should have dropped ages ago. So I’ll leave this one alone.
Maybe another short, pop group? Not for me.
