Gifuu Doudou – Kanetsugu to Keiji – Episode 1 Review

Gifuu Doudou is a spin-off of Hana no Keiji the series is based in the old Japan, in this case the Sengoku era.
This era gave birth to many historical legends. One of which is Naoe Naoe Kanetsugu, who was a brilliant military general of the Uesugi family.

Together with Maeda Keiji, a legendary warrior (The wiki pages I’ve linked to for both Naoe Naoe Kanetsugu and Maeda Keiji are quite an interesting read if your interested in that kind of thing).

These two characters become lifelong friends and fight together though some of history’s most dangerous and volatile time in Japan’s history.

The anime is based on these two men recalling the beginning of their meeting and the journey’s they took to along the way to get to where the highly thought of positions they ended up in.

First Impressions: Not for me! The premise looks good but I found the first episode rather boring, over the top with the larger than life characters forcing them to stand out which shouldn’t be needed.

Larger then life characters (images below and above), the main characters stand out by being larger than normal humans, not a little but massively larger which just looks strange. Main characters should stand out but not like this.

The guy on the left is shown against normal humans as huge so this other guy must be a titan!

The main characters also have some odd/unique and interesting ability’s which could have been their reason for standing out instead of just being huge! I’m sure these ability’s will make the series a little more interesting but Id already lost interest by this point.

Overall: This is a series isn’t too my tastes.
I’m sure some people will like it, after all this is a spin off or an original series and there is also a Manga series. The animation reminds me a little of Jo Jo’s Adventures which despite having  many fans rave on about how good the series was, I just couldn’t understand why….

The plot / story seems quite plane and could have been better, the animation is nothing special and the main characters  being over sized compared to normal people and other samurai just didn’t look right.

I found it hard to watch the full 20+ minutes of the show and have decided to dropped the series.
